Taiwan is a rather small island, Hualien's climate is similar to other places in Taiwan. Having a subtropical climate, summers in Taiwan are usually hot and humid with an average temperature of 29 degrees Celsius (84.2 degrees Fahrenheit). July is typically the hottest and has a record of reaching 38 degrees Celsius (100.4 degrees Fahrenheit) in the past. The occurrences of typhoons are also more frequent during the summer. Winter may consist of strong wind and rain with an average temperature of 15 degrees Celsius (59 degrees Fahrenheit). Spring is the blooming season with an average temperature of 20 degrees Celsius (68 degrees Fahrenheit), but it is also the raining season as well. Tipping is not customary in most places in Taiwan. The one exception is tipping the bellboy when you check into a hotel.
To go to Hualien City, you have many transportation means. The most convenient are by taking trains or by taking airplanes.
Trains go from Taipei to Hualien quite frequently. The journey can take between 3 to 4 hours depending on the type of train. At a relatively cheap price you can easily get to Hualien city by train. Try to take the Taroko Express from Taipei to Hualien! It is a new train type in Taiwan, and travels at a high speed!
Domestic airlines also connect Hualien with all of Taiwan's major cities. It is only a thirty minute flight from Taipei to Hualien.
